About us

So that the students can concentrate wholeheartedly on their training, Studentenwerk (Student services) Düsseldorf endeavours to be a strong partner for them.

It is responsible for providing economic, health, cultural and social services making life easier for the 43,000 students at the four Düsseldorf universities / colleges, Lower Rhine University of Applied Sciences and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

Studentenwerk takes care of its guests in six canteens and twelve cafeterias and lets more than 3,300 accommodation units in nineteen residential complexes. It implements the Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (BAföG), gives loans to students enabling them to complete their studies (Daka), and has its own counselling services for financial questions as well as an online job exchange. There is an advisory service for students with social law or personal problems, or those with disabilities or chronic illnesses. Within the field of international matters / culture we arrange insurance coverage for foreign students or for students wishing to study abroad and organise international exchange schemes as well as a wide range of cultural activities. In our four children’s day care centres we offer a total of 189 places.

In all its activities Studentenwerk combines its social duty with the economic professionalism of a modern, cost-effective service provider.

The students as customers and partners stand at the centre of all our operations. It goes without saying that market- and customer orientation, but also quality assurance, are paramount to us. More than 380 members of staff serve the students’ interests.

Studentenwerk is a legally-independent institution with local responsibilities. Its social duty, the responsibilities of its various organs and its financing are laid down by law. The legal foundation for Studentenwerk ’s activities is contained in the North Rhine-Westphalian Student Services Act of 27 February 1974, and its most recent amendments from 3 September 2004. Studentenwerk’s valid charter was signed by the administrative board on 6 December 2004.
