More and more foreign students are choosing to study in Germany, and more and more German students are going abroad to study. The economic and social situation of many international students remains difficult, however. According to the survey “The internationalisation of academic studies”, published by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in collaboration with Deutsches Studentenwerk (German student services), around 40% of the 246,000 foreign students have problems financing their studies and only little social contact with their German fellow students.
